Opening SMX Race Recap

Wow! What a great start to a new season of SMX racing! Ironclad was happy to host this first race of the season, and what a great race it was. The track was awesome!

The weekend started out with a day of practice on Saturday (we actually had a larger turnout for practice the previous weekend with over 50 riders!).  Light rain visited us most of the day, but not enough to rain out any practice. The light drizzle was actually great for track conditions. Lots of riders came out for practice to experience the track and new changes.

Sunday morning started earlier with many riders already on-site due to camping overnight. We woke up to several areas of the track holding water from the night's heavy downpours, but the track crew was able to get the track ready for practice by 8:30AM.  After practice, a small change was made to the step-off after it's landing bit several riders during practice.

The rider's meeting was held after two rounds of practice, and then we were off to racing! It was an extremely exciting day of racing with most classes having close competition. The weather was cooperative until the very last main event race, which was the Super-Mini and Schoolboy classes. Congrats to the four guys who managed to complete an abbreviated main event in pouring rain, hail, lightning, and lots of water! All I can say is...Wow!

Thanks to ALL who came out to the Ironclad this past weekend, whether for practice or for racing. Thanks to our sponsors who helped make this event possible, especially NES Rentals. Their support has allowed us to make track modifications, as needed. Also, thanks to our all-volunteer track team that maintains the track, facility, and assists with events.

Please visit our website often for our event schedule. We may open the track up for open practice in the weeks to come.  If so, we will post the date and time on our website one or two weeks prior.

See you at the next race!

New Track Design for 2012!

As the 2012 season of SMX series racing quickly approaches, the track team at the Ironclad has been hard at work.  The team evaluated comments from the 2011 racing season regarding the track design and layout and has came up with some awesome modifications for 2012!
